Baby Shower Dessert Recipe: Mud Pie

If you're trying to think of a delicious baby shower dessert, then use the mud pie recipe. Even though this recipe is used a lot at kids' birthday parties, it will be sure to be a hit at your baby shower too. Chocolate pudding, Oreo cookies, gummy worms, whipped cream all mashed together to create pure awesomeness. No child or adult should have to go without experiencing this dessert at least once in his or her lifetime. So in case you don't know how to make it, here's a simple recipe that I put together:

Ingredients that you'll need:

• 1 Chocolate cookie crust • 2 packages of instant chocolate pudding • 2 rows of Oreos (20) • Cool Whip • Gummy worms

Instructions:

In my opinion, this is the classic way to make mud pie. First of all, follow the instructions on the instant pudding packets to make the pudding.

Once you've made the pudding, fold in some Cool Whip, about ½ cup. I like to leave matters of whip cream to the discretion of the cook. Some people prefer more, others less, so do what you feel is best. Next, crush your Oreos into chunks, and mix it into the mud pie.

Finally when you are done with that, pour it into your ready-made pie crust. Get a couple handfuls of worms and poke um' into the pie to complete the 'mud' effect. Some Cool Whip decorated on top, and you'll have yourself a delicious dessert. This will take you a total of about 10 minutes to make. Taking this into account, you can understand why it's considered by many to be an essential party food. It's not expensive and really fast. If you have many people to feed, just multiply the amount that you make.

Of course for adults, we might call it something different, and put together a little more elegantly. For example; layer the ingredients like a parfait instead of slapping them all in a pie crust. It's probably a good idea to leave out the worms too. You can serve the mud pie on trays with small plastic cups.

However if you have a lot of children attending your baby shower, they will love these 'wormy' details. Another cool idea is for you to actually have a corner of the baby shower where the children can make mud pie with a designated adult. Of course this is a lot more work because of all of the mess it will make. However the kids will have something to do and give their parents an opportunity to enjoy the games and other activities at your shower. If you decide on this option, make sure to have lots of plastic aprons for the kids and paper towels to clean up. Lay out the ingredients and tools that you'll need ahead of time on the table that you'll be using. Most kids love cooking and it will be an extra treat for them to be able to serve the adults with their mud pie creation and feel proud of what they made.
